Wing Luke exhibit focuses on Pacific Islander health issues

The large white teapot reminded Kim Nguyen of her childhood. When she or her brother were sick, her Vietnamese parents would brew an herbal remedy to cure whatever their ailment was.
Seeing the teapot as she walked though the Wing Luke Asian Museum not only reminded her of the bad smell and the bad taste of the tea, but also of the way her parents were forced to handle health care. When the family came to the United States, language and cultural barriers restricted their access to doctors. Decades later, members of the Asian Pacific Islander community still face some of the same problems, including higher cervical cancer and hepatitis B rates than other populations and higher suicide rates among seniors with depression, anxiety and alcohol use
