There are six engineers at my company. Or, as I like to say, there are five engineers and me at my company.
Each of us - including the Director of Engineering - takes turns being on call for a week. The on-call week begins on Wednesday so that everyone gets in a weekend equally.
I've been on call since last Wednesday. This is my fourth time since starting with the company (we've gained and lost an engineer here and there so it hasn't been even over my short tenure).
The first time I was on call, I only had one nuisance alarm call. The second and third times, I didn't have a thing to respond to. This time I had a bad fire panel call at 4:30 Thursday morning, a heat pump water leak in a server room Friday evening and a constantly flushing toilet on Saturday morning that flooded the seventh floor Men's room and leaked into both Men's and Women's rooms clear down to the third floor level.
Come on Wednesday morning!
